Pirate Corn Maze

Yesterday we trekked over to Boone Hall Plantation again for the Pirates's Quest Corn Maze, which was designed by Adrian Fisher. The above picture is the actual map they gave us - I outloined the path we took in orange.

Below is an actual photo of the maze from above in case you think that map could not possibly be real!

Diet Coke & Mentos

I heard about this fad that everybody is filming and putting on youtube. This is a good take on the DC & Mentos phenomenon.

Sunday Homily From Me

If your religion takes offense to another religious leader's usage of a quote from a writing that also contains messages that criticize your religion and its founder for being violent, don't show your level of offense by acting out violently. It makes your religion look pretty bad in the eyes of those with free thought.

Also, if you're a religious leader who is supposed to be infallible during your role as said leader, don't apologize since infallible means you do not make mistakes.

9/11

I don't want to have to go through this every year. The fact that it has been 5 years made this year more intense for the media's coverage. I was disgusted as I went through the channel guide on my TV and all I saw was 9/11 coverage. I even sat through a GWB speech tonight.

I can never forget what happened, and I do not need to be reminded of it. I do not need to be told how to feel about it. I don't want to relive the nightmare of it now, and I may never want to relive it - so please leave me the fuck alone already.

If you've ever lost a loved one, you don't want the world to shove it down your throat every year.

Mac Rode Her Bike!

Yesterday, Mackenzie finally went solo on her bicycle. She had this bike for well over a year now, and it still looks brand new. She would not ride it when it had training whees because the first time she tried with them she wiped out and that was it for that present. During this past summer I took off the training wheels, and we recently gave her toddler bike that he uncle gave her a long time ago to Good Will. It was time for her to be forced to learn to ride a 2-wheeler, so I took away all of her options.

She has been reluctantly trying to do this, but she psyches herself out every time. Both Amy and I knew she could do it, but she was just so afraid to let us let go of her that she really held herself back with fear. The strange thing is she rides a Razor scooter all over the place, and I think those are a lot more difficult to balance on then a bike. Oh well, I think she got motivated today when she saw a kid smaller than her riding a mini-bike while we were walking the dogs. When we got back from the walk, she demanded that we attempt a bike ride again. After a few tries, I finally succeeded in doing the evil "dad lets go after promising not to" trick by telling her I had her when I in fact did not. As she was going I told her calmly that she was doing it and then I grabbed her in case she freaked out, which she didn't. That was all she needed. The confidence came to her and before we knew it she was ripping up the cul de sac!

She still has a little trouble getting started when she rides, but she is doing better each time. I have to go get her a new helmet now that she is getting brave. To think, my little girl is growing up so fast. Congrats on taking such a big step Mac!

Best Of Rodney Mullen

Saw this on Digg tonight courtesy of Kevin Rose. I remember when my brother Robbie used to skate - he was big into street-style. Mullen rules.

O&A on Letterman

The bad boys of radio Opie & Anthony officially take their place as the new kings of radio. I tell ya, having a station like theirs on XM satellite radio makes a job like mine that involves a lot of travel in the car an enjoyable thing.
